How to Use Practice Mode Properly in Geometry Dash
Published · 1 min read
What practice mode is for
In normal mode a death sends you to 0%. In practice mode you place checkpoints and respawn at the last one. New players avoid it as a crutch; experienced players know it is the only sane way to learn a section that appears at 80% of a two-minute level.
Where to place checkpoints
Put a checkpoint a second or two before the section that kills you, not at it — you need a run-up so your timing matches the real thing. Do not put one after every jump; you will learn to survive from a standing start, which never happens in normal mode.
How long to stay
Drill a section until you clear it ten times in a row. Then delete the checkpoint and try from the previous one. When you can clear the whole level in practice with one checkpoint at the start, switch to normal mode. The first few normal runs will die from nerves; that is expected.
The audio trap
Practice mode plays its own music, not the level track. That is why a section you nailed in practice can feel wrong in normal mode. Count the rhythm out loud when you switch back until the real track lines up.
